Production information
Fairies never say, “We feel happy.”
They say, “We feel like dancing!”

After more than a century of countless interpretations of Peter Pan around the world, Hung Dance’s The Peter Pan traces back to J.M. Barrie’s original work The Little White Bird (1902), in search of the boy who refused to grow up.

“Perhaps Peter Pan understands growing up better than we do,” says choreographer Lai Hung-chung. “In that world, Peter Pan has, in fact, already grown up. He has gone through struggles and contradictions within himself—he has become who he truly is.”

The Scottish novelist and playwright J.M. Barrie first introduced Peter Pan in The Little White Bird. In this fantastical tale, Peter is forever seven days old. As an infant, he flew out of the window and into Kensington Gardens, where he plays the pipes and rides a goat like the Greek god Pan, wandering freely among fairies and birds. In this dance theatre production, there is no Wendy and no Captain Hook—every character is Peter Pan.

Blending Eastern and Western aesthetics, The Peter Pan transforms the lightness of fledglings into contemporary dance, embodying a boundless curiosity and eagerness to explore the world.
With a single prop morphing into ten different scenes, the piece celebrates the infinite imagination of childhood.

Through a child’s unbounded gaze, it reveals the tension and flight within the process of growing up—the questions that both children and adults must seek answers to, together.
