It is hoped that the platform will become a bridge providing wings for creations from different countries and backgrounds to come together and discover new possibilities.

3.   Performance date

Selection 1: December 16, 2023, 19:30 (Saturday)

Selection 2 & Award Ceremony: December 17, 2023, 14:30 (Sunday)

The “Selection” performance will feature 10 to 12 submissions. Each work will be presented once, with the organizer deciding the dates and sequence of the performances.

Taiwan Traditional Theatre Center – Experimental Theatre (No. 751, Wenlin Rd., Shilin Dist., Taipei City)

5.   Applicant qualifications

  • All nationalities welcome

 

6.   Submission qualifications

  1.  Number of performers: 1-2 persons (solo or duo); choreographers may perform their dance pieces
  2. Length: 10-15 minutes
  3. Dance piece status: Released, unreleased, or works in progress are all acceptable
  4. Simple lighting and stage props are preferable
  5. Pieces already released on this platform are not accepted
  6. An applicant may submit more than one creation
  7. Submissions of any form of dance are welcome

 

7.   Application method and Details

The application must include the following information:

 

  1. Applicant's personal details (Full name, Nationality, Contact Number, Email)
  2. Choreographer's resume (One copy, unlimited number of pages, PDF format)
  3. Choreographer's personal photo (one portrait photo with a clear view of the face, JPG format)
  4. Dance piece-related information (Title, Length, Number of dancers, Full name of dancers)
  5. Dance piece introduction (one copy, unlimited number of pages, PDF format)
  6. Link to video of the dance piece(Only Vimeo or YouTube video links are allowed; Please ensure the links are valid for viewing, both official performance videos and rehearsal videos are acceptable. No special effects are allowed in the videos, with the emphasis on clearly presenting the choreography. The choreography video can be edited accordingly to the length of the performance; Length of the video must be between 10-15 minutes, video that are shorter or longer will be disqualified.)
  7. Provide 2-3 promotional photos/ still photography

 

 8.   Awards

  1.  Taiwan's “Stray Birds Dance Platform” 

    Selected choreographers will be invited to the “2024 Stray Birds Dance Platform” Showcase

  2. Taiwan's “Chiayi New Style Choreography” 

    Selected choreographers will be invited to “2024 Chiayi New Style Choreography” to create a brand-new dance piece.

  3. Taiwan’s “Kaohsiung City Ballet – Dance Shoe”

    Selected choreographers will be invited to “2025 Dance Shoe” to create a brand-new dance piece

  4. Spain's “MASDANZA” 

    Selected dance pieces will be able to partake in “The Solo and Choreography Contests” or “Showcase” in 2024

  5.  Korea's “New Dance for Asia” 

    Selected dance pieces will be able to participate in the 2024 “Showcase”


 

9.   Stray Birds Dance Platform will provide:

  1.  Basic stage lighting
  2. Meal subsidy: Choreographers and dancers will be provided with lunch and dinner during the week in theater ($100/meal for 3 meals; a total of NT$300/individual)
  3. During theater week, applicants from outside Taipei City and New Taipei City will get transportation subsidies to and from Taipei City. (Fares are calculated based on TRA Tze Chiang Limited Express Train.) For international works, the platform provides round-trip transportation from the airport to the hotel
  4. Accommodation subsidy: This subsidy is limited to internationally selected works; One double room with a double bed (including breakfast) will be provided for working days starting from the time of arrival in Taiwan, with the location to be determined by the organizer
  5. Implementation of the lighting and sound technologies
  6. Marketing and promotion of work

 

10.   Other supplementary information

  1.  Stray Birds Dance Platform does not provide rehearsal and performance fees for selected dance pieces
  2. The 5th Stray Birds Dance Platform's "Selection" performance will feature 12 dance pieces in total, with the organizer deciding the time and order of the performances. Information on the actual number of works will be verified
  3. Each work will have 30 minutes of technical rehearsal
  4. If props or stage installations are used during the performance, the performers or choreographers are responsible for setting them up and removing them afterward
  5. The applicant shall pay the application and all fees related to the performance royalties of the music. The chosen piece must get the necessary performance licensing paperwork
  6. The award presenter has the right to the final decision in selecting creations. If the award presenter believes that none of the creations qualify for the award, the award will be forfeited
  7. For the selected international works, the choreographers and dancers are responsible for applying for their own visas to enter Taiwan
  8. Award winners must contact the award presenter to discuss the terms and conditions of the invitation. The two parties' contact will not be handled by the platform
  9.  The organizer reserves the right to amend, change, interpret, or cancel the event. Any changes will be announced on our affiliated websites without further notice
  10.  If an international award presenter is unable to attend the event in Taiwan in person due to COVID-19, the results will be announced individually by the organizer
